If you’re embarking on a new office design project, there are two directions you can go: innovate or replicate. New and exciting or stale and boring. Some companies are embracing innovation to the point where they want to show off their new office space to the world, if only to make the rest of us jealous. One of those companies is Facebook.

According to Curbed, Facebook recently opened up its new offices in New York. The company is so proud of the new office design that they’re kicking things off with an unveiling and a feature article in the Wall Street Journal. Facebook’s new 185,000-square-foot office space in the historic Wanamaker Building at 770 Broadway near Astor Place, is “home to 500 employees and engineers. The floors have open layouts, there’s a full service cafeteria and a library, as well as all of the things that one thinks of when picturing a hip tech company office, i.e. gaming tables, exposed ceilings, and custom-made art,” says Curbed’s Jessica Dailey. She highlights a few particular features of the new office space, including:

Art on the walls that embodies the ethos of the Facebook engineering culture

A variety of meeting spaces

An office library paneled in Douglas fir plywood

Large meeting areas

Original architecture

In the midst of its own office redesign, Wired Magazine recently took a look at the grim past in an article titled “The Saddest Office Cubicles We Could Find.” According to Wired, “In 2007, WIRED.com (then known as ‘Wired News’) asked readers with particularly depressing office cubicles to submit photos of their plight. People hated their cubicles—and rightly so. They didn’t offer any real privacy, but were incredibly effective at communicating office hierarchy. The hatred of this terrible design was clear: Our gallery of “winners” of the saddest-cubicle contest still holds the record for WIRED’s most popular post ever. Today, WIRED is in the midst of its own office redesign, casting off the last vestiges of cubiclean separation to join the popular open-floor-plan mania that has overtaken offices in Silicon Valley and beyond. In recognition of this pivotal moment in American workplace-design history, we’re resurrecting the long-forgotten saddest-cubicle gallery, and issuing a new call for submissions.”

Going into your own office redesign, the last thing you want is to have one of your cubicles end up on this list. The best way to do that is to avoid cubicles in the first place and go for a much more effective redesign that encourages worker happiness and productivity. The experts at Office Space Planners can do just that for you. Our expert designers and project managers have decades of combined experience and education in the areas of interior design, space planning, computer aided design, drafting, corporate office relocation management, project management, ergonomics and systems furniture. We provide a host of services, including analysis, commercial space planning, project management, and move coordination.

When we think of the necessity of quality office space planning, we often think about increasing productivity. Our first thought usually isn’t about security but that might be one of the most pressing concerns. A recent article by Strategy&’s Matt Palmquist, titled “The Security Risk in the Cubicle Next Door,” explores the ever present risk of employees causing security breaches and what causes them to make those decisions. A huge factor is worker happiness, which can directly link to the design of the office. When planning your office space, it’s important to think of the most effective ways to invest in your employees. The expert designers and project managers at Office Space Planners are here to assist you through the process.

According to Palmquist, researchers published a new study on office security in Information and Management. Palmquist says, “The authors conducted in-depth interviews with frontline workers, managers, and information security professionals—CIOs and network administrators—at large firms in a variety of industries across the United States. Points of contention quickly emerged. For example, 39 percent of managers cited hackers as the biggest danger, whereas only 4 percent of security specialists agreed, citing threats such as Trojans, viruses, or worms as more dangerous. But in reality, a company’s own staff can be even more vexing: Almost 60 percent of security professionals pinpointed employees as the most likely source of accidental or intentional breaches. The most essential bulwark against cybercrime appears to be a happy workforce, according to the study. The interviews revealed two factors that led employees to consciously betray their firms: the knowledge that the proprietary information in a database could be sold to competitors, or a desire to exact revenge on the company for some kind of perceived slight”

Lana Bortolot of Entrepreneur looks at how office design specifically factors into employee happiness in an article titled, “Designing a Better Office Space.” Bortolot writes, “You can thank the open office movement for starting that conversation, turning concepts such as collaboration and transparency into convention. But the new buzzwords on every workplace designer’s tongue are incubation, cross-pollination, symbiosis and co-working–concepts that are causing even more walls to come down and hierarchies to flatten further. In today’s parlance, the corner office is no longer seen as a prize.” When the hierarchies are eliminated and employees have more opportunities to collaborate and interact in a positive way, they are much more likely to be happy with their work.

Creating an office design plan that facilitates an abundance of positivity and productivity is not a task for amateurs. You will need experts who will save you countless time and money through the process. At Office Space Planners, we have designers and project managers with decades of combined experience and education in the areas of interior design, space planning, computer aided design, drafting, corporate office relocation management, project management, ergonomics and systems furniture. Our services include analysis, commercial space planning, project management, and move coordination.

Office security is no joke and making your employees happy with a productive, positive office design could make all the difference. For your office design needs, look no further than Office Space Planners.

According to Erika Adams of Racked, Condé Nast employees began moving into the New World Trade Center on Monday, Nov. 3. With an article titled “No Fancy Architects Were Involved in Vogue’s New Office Design,” Adams alludes to the fact that Condé Nast took a decidedly different approach to their new space. Of course, it will be some time before we can assess whether it was a success or not. “Fancy” architects or not, making the move to a new office requires having a team of experts to make sure it’s designed for maximum productivity. At Office Space Planners, we have a team of expert designers and project managers to ensure success for your business.

With a host of different businesses and types of publications, Condé Nast could especially use experienced consultation. According to Adams, “The highest floor will house Condé Nast’s law firm, Sabin, Bermant & Gould. Condé Nast executives will be relocated to the 42nd floor, and Vanity Fair will live right below it on the 41st floor. The New Yorker has been assigned the 38th floor. Anna Wintour and her Vogue clan will be moved to the 25th floor.”

While there are unique needs for each business, there are some general guidelines to consider when designing your office space. The Next Web’s Amber Leigh Turner tackles some of these suggestions in an article titled “The perfect workspace: How to design an office that boosts productivity.” She first suggests looking at wall color. According to Turner, “With any kind of design, colors play an important role because they can often be directly tied to feelings. There is a large body of knowledge behind the psychology of colors that can help you pick the right paint color for your walls.” She also instructs readers to examine desks and chairs, lighting, and proper storage. Turner notes, “There are thousands of ways to store things for your office, but finding the most efficient and affordable options are key. Desk space is often limited, so finding other storage options that can help you de-clutter the desk space can help boost productivity as it will keep you from having to spend time moving piles around or finding something you need.”

With these suggestions in mind, you still need an experienced team to guide you through the process. The experts at Office Space Planners can save you a ton of time, money, and stress. Our team has decades of combined experience and education in the areas of interior design, space planning, computer aided design, drafting, corporate office relocation management, project management, ergonomics and systems furniture. Some of the services we provide include analysis, commercial space planning, project management, and move coordination.

Whatever office design needs you may have, you can’t go wrong with Office Space Planners!

According to Innovation Trail, Kodak is planning to share some of the office space in its building with nonprofit organizations and incubator operations. The company’s hope is that letting these organizations use the space will foster innovate ideas. This is part of a bigger development happening in Rochester, New York. According to Innovation Trail’s Randy Gorbman, “Rochester city and business officials want to emphasize the efforts at innovation that are going on downtown, by designating what they are calling a ‘downtown innovation zone.’ That’s something that Heidi Zimmer-Meyer of the Rochester Downtown Development Corporation says could help bring more attention to changes that are going on in the local economy.” The real question is whether moving into the Kodak space will be the right move for the nonprofits and incubators. Will the Kodak office fit their unique needs so they can perform with maximum productivity? Many of them could use our experienced team at Office Space Planners to ensure they are making the right business decision with their move.

Don’t take our word for it though. In a new article for Entrepreneur, titled “Aiming to Improve Your Office Space? Consider This Before a Move or Redesign,” Entrepreneur’s Riggs Kubiak suggests four main things to consider so you can ensure a successful process. First, assess the current setting. Second, explore a new space. Third, assemble the right project team. This includes having a quality architect, project manager, point person, and general contractor. Lastly, Kubiak suggests staying involved in the process. Kubiak poses a series of questions that you should ask yourself throughout the process, including “If your company were to opt for a different site for a new office, how many people would be housed there?” and “What do intend to use the office for? Is it simply for working and meetings? Or do you need a screening room, a music studio or maybe an outdoor garden?”

Keeping Kubiak’s suggestions in mind, you can check off everything on the list with the experts at Office Space Planners. Our team has decades of combined experience and education in the areas of interior design, space planning, computer aided design, drafting, corporate office relocation management, project management, ergonomics and systems furniture. We provide a number of services, including analysis, commercial space planning, project management, and move coordination.

Whether it’s designing, redesigning, or moving your office, you need to consult with experts to get optimum productivity out of your business. Whatever office space needs you may have, your best bet is Office Space Planners!

One of the ongoing economic debates raging throughout the country is whether or not green energy lives up to the hype. Is it really more efficient and sustainable or is it just the latest in trendy, temporary solutions? Does it have an effect on the workplace? A new report by the World Green Building Council, titled “Health, Wellbeing and Productivity in Offices: The Next Chapter for Green Building” suggests green office designs could actually increase worker productivity.

According to Co.Exist, there are five specific suggestions from the study that could improve efficiency at the office. The first recommendation is utilize windows. As reported by Co.Exist, “Office workers with windows get 173% more exposure to white light during the work day, and sleep an average of 46 extra minutes a night.” Next, the article suggests improving the office’s ventilation. It says researchers found that better ventilation improved worker’s performance by 11 percent. Co.Exist also instructs bosses to provide their workers with a plant or a view because these things make employees less frustrated, more patient, healthier, and more focused on their work. If possible, they also recommend encouraging workers to take public transit, walk, or bike to the office because it will make them less likely to get sick. Lastly, Co.Exist encourages telecommuting and open offices to decrease the carbon footprint.

According to the report, the rate of absenteeism in the United States is 3 percent in the private sector and 4 percent in the public sector. It estimates that the associated business costs amount to $2,000-$2,500 per employee per year.

Even with this new report, the green debate is still very much alive. What do you think?

One way or the other, you shouldn’t go into the office design process without the help of experts. At Office Space Planners, we provide you with a team of expert designers and project managers. Between them, they have decades of combined experience and education in the areas of interior design, space planning, computer aided design, drafting, corporate office relocation management, project management, ergonomics and systems furniture. Our services include analysis, commercial space planning, project management, and move coordination.

However you choose to tackle the issue of worker productivity, you will always be better served getting your office off the ground efficiently. With Office Space Planners, you can save time and money designing the ideal office for your business. Whatever you office design needs, look no further than Office Space Planners!

Effective office design is critical to any business that operates out of an office space. While the first thing that might come to mind when we think of office design is a room full of cubicles (or hopefully anything but that), there are a host of other industry specific spaces that go largely unnoticed. For example, unless it’s particularly bad, you probably don’t pay much attention to the layout of your dentist’s office. After all, it’s not a place most people relish going. However, if you’re in the industry, it’s imperative to pay attention to the details. Going with expert office space designers and project managers at Office Space Planners could be the secret to your success.

Who knows? You might even be rewarded, not just with a successful office, but the recognition and praise of your peers. As reported by Dentistry IQ, the winners of the 2014 Dental Office Design Competition have been announced. The event is put on by Wells Fargo Practice Finance, Dental Economics, ADA Business Resources and the American Dental Association (ADA). Parklane Dental of Arcadia, California won the award for best small practice, Spodak Dental Group of Delray Beach, Florida won for best group practice, North Iowa Oral Surgery Associates of Mason City, Iowa won the Outstanding Specialty Practice award, and Brian P. Rask, DMD, PA of Pompano Beach, Florida won the award for Outstanding Design Efficiency.

These praise worthy offices are proof of the importance of office design. An effectively designed office can create both optimal worker productivity and the ability to provide quality, innovative service to customers.

As you’re getting ready to design the layout for your practice, don’t make the mistake of not utilizing experts. At Office Space Planners, we provide you with a team of expert designers and project managers. Our services include analysis, commercial planning, project management, and move coordination. Our team has decades of combined experience and education in the areas of interior design, space planning, computer aided design, drafting, corporate office relocation management, project management, ergonomics and systems furniture.

The office is a necessity for many people to get work done. It provides a space where you can focus and collaborate with other like-minded coworkers. However, there are some health risks involved with certain office settings, according to Medical Express. David Ellis explores sitting and lighting in his recent article “Sitting and office lighting among work risks.” According to Ellis, “researchers at the University of Adelaide say office workers need to move more and sit less, and use warm-coloured lighting instead of blue-rich LEDs to help avoid some serious potential health risks.” Health is a very important thing to take into account when planning your office design. Experts at Office Space Planners are here to help you tackle this and many other office issues.

According to Ellis, long hours sitting can counteract regular physical activity. Those long hours are associate with cardiovascular disease, diabetes and fatigue. In addition, researchers found that “’blue light’ or ‘blue-rich’ white LED light sources can damage the retina with long-term exposure.” They suggest warm lighting, such as red, green, and even cool blue, because they’re more comfortable for reading and are safer for workers’ eyes.

Lighting and furniture layout are just a couple of the things we design for you at Office Design Planners.

What’s the key to designing your office for optimal productivity? Many a business owner would like to know. Obviously, seeking out the expert designers and project managers at Office Space Planners would be a good start. Before you begin your project, you might want to get some ideas of the possibilities available to you through different office space designs.

Recently, the Harvard Business Review explored this subject in an article titled “Workspaces That Move People.” Authors Ben Waber, Jennifer Magnolfi, and Greg Lindsay had a number of revelations. One of these revelations was that face-to-face interactions are the most important activity that occurs in offices. Also, you can design your office for specific outcomes such as productivity in one room and increased innovation in another. When it comes to demonstrating a workspace’s effect on the bottom line, the article has a couple of key suggestions. First, recognize the office space as a strategic tool for growth. Second, design your office to reflect how 21st century digital work actually happens.

For some specific models to inspire your office design project, look no further than Symmetry50. The small business bookkeeping company published a list of the top 75 co-working spaces in the U.S. Officing Today spotlighted the top 10 in an article titled “Is Your Coworking Space on ‘The List?’” The top 10 read as follows:

Office Nomads in Seattle, Washington

HackerLab in Sacramento, California

Co+Hoots in Phoenix, Arizona

The Urban Hive, Sacramento California

CoLoft in Santa Monica, California

BlankSpaces in Los Angeles, California

New Work City in New York, New York

Co-Merge in San Diego, California

Hera Hub in San Diego, California

NextSpace in San Francisco, California

Using the Harvard Business Review and Symmetry50’s list as inspiration, you should be ready to tackle your office space. Of course, good reading and eye candy is not enough. You need expert designers and project managers. Many people think they can save a few bucks if they do the project themselves but end up costing themselves more time and money than they ever could’ve anticipated. At Office Space Planners, we have the experts who can provide you with analysis, commercial space planning, project management, and move coordination. Our team has decades of combined experience and education in the areas of interior design, space planning, computer aided design, drafting, corporate office relocation management, project management, ergonomics, and systems furniture.

When it comes to solving your office space planning needs, no one does it better than Office Space Planners!
